Principles of Engineering

Through problems that engage and challenge, students explore a broad range of engineering topics, including mechanisms, strength of structures and materials, and automation. Students develop skills in problem solving, research, and design while learning strategies for design process documentation, collaboration, and presentation.

POE is a foundational course in Project Lead the Way’s (PLTW) Engineering program and counts as a science credit by the LaDOE. PLTW is a nonprofit organization that provides a transformative learning experience for K-12 students and teachers across the US. PLTW curriculum creates an engaging classroom environment that empowers students to develop and apply in-demand, transportable skills by exploring real-world challenges.

POE is a course in the Manufacturing, Construction Crafts, and Logistics career pathway. Students are encouraged take other courses in the pathway offered at BCHS such as: General Technology, Industrial Maintenance I, and Basic Technical Drafting, as well as the required upper-level math and science courses needed for a career in engineering.
