Introduction to Engineering Design

In Introduction to Engineering Design (IED), students will dig deep into the engineering design process, applying math, science, & engineering standards to identify & design solutions to a variety of real problems.  Students will work both individually & in collaborative teams to develop & document design solutions using engineering notebooks & 3D modeling software.

IED is a foundational course in Project the Lead the Way’s (PLTW) Engineering Program, a nonprofit organization that provides a transformative learning experience for K-12 students & teachers across the US.  PLTW curriculum creates an engaging classroom environment that empowers students to develop & apply in-demand, transportable skills by exploring real-world challenges.  IED is the1st foundational course.  Students are encouraged to take the 2nd course, Principles of Engineering (POE) after successful completion of IED.  Additionally, students can complete their career pathway with Engineering Design & Product Development, General Technology, Industrial Maintenance, as well as the required upper-level math and science courses necessary for a career in engineering.
