Introduction

I am Mercedes Franco, the Spanish teacher. This is my first year at Belle Chasse High School.

I was born in Mexico City, got my education degree at La Escuela Nacional de maestros and La Universidad Autónoma de México.

I moved to New Orleans to continue practicing my profession in education. During this time, I was part of the cultural department of the Mexican Consulate where our mission was to educate the public of the traditional folkloric music and dances.  This was done through a small group of Spanish teachers from different parts of Latin America called Mi Tierra and performed throughout New Orleans and Baton Rouge.

I earned my Master of Arts degree (Romance Languages with a Spanish Literature and Culture concentration) at the University of New Orleans. I also worked there during the summer on the Upper Bound Program, teaching Spanish to the High School students from Orleans and Jefferson Parish. This helped me expand my relationships with high school students and motivated me as to continue to help them and guide them in completing their achievements.

I hope that during this school year, we will be more resilient and sensitive to the situations that we are currently living through, remain on track on our educational goals,  learn and understand the culture differences, and continue to develop and appreciate the gift of learning another language.
