BCHS Students Attend LSU Research Program

This year four of our very own BCHS students were given an opportunity of a lifetime. They were of the
select few chosen to take part in a Summer Science Research Internship Program at LSU School of
Medicine.

The program works to promote students’ interest in pursuing medical and research careers in either the
basic or clinical sciences. This summer the students spend 6-weeks in the program during the summer.
Our interns were matched with mentors in laboratories, surgeries or clinics at Louisiana State University
Health Sciences Center or Children’s Hospital of New Orleans. Students learned laboratory techniques
used in medical research and attended weekly seminars. All students presented their research results at
the end of the summer during their Cumulating Event Presentation Day. In addition, they received
training in presentation skills, building relationships in the workplace & a stipend for all of their hard
work.

This year’s BCHS students are pictured above from left to right with the Career Research Path they
studied during their summer program.
