Complete the reading of "One Word of Truth Outweighs the World," on pages 203-204. Be sure to have a plethora of annotations since the article is short. You also are assigned questions 1-3 on the text. You should have two sentences for each question; cite evidence for each answer.

If you are absent on Tuesday, you should have received the vocabulary worksheets for Chapter 9. Those will be due on Wednesday, along with the vocabulary cards for Chapter 9.

Tuesday's homework will be for you to complete the reading and annotation of the next speech, "Hope, Despair, and Memory" by Elie Wiesel. You should read and annotate it thoroughly. Answer questions 4-6, citing textual evidence. Students will be allowed to read this speech in class tomorrow, continuing that reading at home Tuesday night.

*****Do not forget to bring index cards to class for the rest of the week. You will need 40 index cards for the next four chapters of vocabulary.

Read and annotate pages 5-11 in A Doll's House. Please know you need at least 4 annotations per note page. When you get to page 11, you will begin writing one-sentence summaries at the top of the page; you will also need at least 3 annotations on each page. You MUST write the summaries at the top of the novel and not on sticky notes. If you need to write sticky notes for the side annotations, you may do so.

Please keep in mind that we will have several pages of reading and annotating assigned each night. With that in mind, you may want to read ahead and complete more of the reading if you have sports, clubs, or jobs after school during the week.

Also, 1st period students need to have 3 connotative words listed and analyzed below the paragraph. Second and 3rd period must have 2 connotative words listed and analyzed below the paragraph. It is required!!!

The annotated article taped to a sheet of paper, the SOAPstone Graphic Organizer, and the typed final copy of the paragraph (heading, title, bibliography, paragraph, and connotative words) must be ready to print upon entering the class.

Please underline the vocabulary words and the prepositional phrases and participial phrases.

Read page 94 so that you understand the meaning of the following terms: hook, claim, evidence and reasons, counterclaims (concessions and refutations), and Concluding Statement (Call to Action). Once you understand the terms, read and annotate pages 95-96 of "An Indian Father's Plea." You must label the hook, claim, and 4 or more reasons and evidence that support the claim/thesis. Also, be sure to label examples of ethos (ethical morals and credibility), pathos (appeals to emotion), and logos (appeal to logic and facts). There are no real counterclaims on these pages--and the call to action occurs at the end of the letter.

Work on your newspaper article assignment. It is due on Friday.
