On Friday, students were allowed to read their novels, Henrietta Lacks, and I looked at their introductions for their essays that are officially due Monday. They were also given a copy of my DE Journal.  I have attached a copy of that journal to a Google Classroom Assignment.

Homework:   Read Chapters 1-25 of Henrietta Lacks by next Friday, March 29, 2019. I will pick up the DE Journals at the beginning of class that date.  Remember, you MUST have at least one quote analyzed per chapter.  The rest of the novel is due on April 1, 2019--Chapters 26-38.  It is a great book.  Please get busy with your reading so you do not score poorly on your first assessment this grading period.

Monday, we will briefly review your essays and Works Cited pages and move on to Argumentative Writing.

Complete the outline for your essay on The Crucible.  You should use the outline that is in the packet.  Please read all of the instructions in the packet.  This essay should show a lot of critical thought and planning.  You will begin typing the essay in class.

Please read Henrietta Lacks.  Remember, the entire novel and the DE (Double Entry) Journal for the novel are due on April 1st.  You should also remember the focus of the novel is medical ethics--what is acceptable and unacceptable in medical practices with patients.  Perhaps considering that statement will help you develop your quotes for each of the thirty-eight chapters.

Assignment

English III AP

First, I apologize for not writing the homework on this website before today.  I told everyone what the homework was on the Friday before the break, but I guess I needed to write it here as well.

First, you really did not have much homework over the break--except to get ready for the ACT test on Tuesday (March 12, 2019) and to make sure you have completed reading all of The Crucible since it will be the focus of your mid-term exam and an essay assignment.

You should have completed the two questions in the packet on Act IV of The Crucible for the Friday before the break.  On Friday, you were also given the essay assignment on the play; the entire essay will be due the Tuesday after exams (March 19, 2019).

You were also given the argumentative writing assignment that will be written on Henrietta Lacks.  Hopefully, you have been keeping a double-entry journal that analyzes one quote for each chapter.  The entire book and double entry journal will be due on April 1st--and this is no joke.  Please use the same form for the double entry journal as shown in the packet on The Crucible--without stating who was saying the quote to whom.  The actual essay will be due on April 11th.

I will be giving you specific due dates for the Chapters before April 1, so please continue reading several pages each evening.

We will be ordering The Great Gatsby.  The cost for the book is $13.00--please pay with a check or turn in the exact amount.  I will begin picking up the fee the Monday after exams (March 18, 2019).

I look forward to seeing you tomorrow--mid-term exams and ACT testing in one week--this is going to be fun.

Assignment

English III AP

Complete Act III for Monday.  You must read and annotate each page.  As you read this act, please look for different types of language that Miller uses for each character--and label those appropriately.  If you notice a logical fallacy, label it.  If you notice that imagery or motifs are used.  Label those.  Maybe you notice that connotative diction is used.  Label it.  I guess  you get the point, right.

Over the weekend, please look at your Timed Writing Assignment.  Highlight your thesis and examples of analysis that you find in your reading.  You would need 8-9 to have an A; 6-7 to have a B; 4-5 to have a C; 2-3 to have a D; 1 to have an F.  Then look for ways to improve your essay.  Make grammar and punctuation corrections.  Determine how you could improve the analysis.  Write these on the copies I returned to you today.  We will discuss these in class.

Newspaper articles are going to be due on Wednesday.  I need to discuss with you what I want to see in the remaining articles.  Many of you are just picking articles that offer no opportunity to use your analytical skills--and while you are writing and explaining the connotative words, you fail to use them in your actual paragraphs.

Have a great weekend.  See you on Monday!

Assignment

English III AP

Begin reading The Crucible Act III.  It is due on Monday, so be sure to start reading tonight.  You must have at least 3 annotations per page, so it should not take you long to complete the act.

I also encourage you to be sure to complete the Logical Fallacies Packet, maybe even writing thesis statements #1 and #2.  I would also complete and bring to class the Character Analysis packet for Acts I and II. I might even write that thesis statement on the bottom of the page for your chosen character, just the one chosen character.  I also encourage you to complete the Strategies Graphic Organizer (it is number 3).

However, I REALLY think that you might want to consider writing the Thesis below #4 Written Analysis.   You may have nothing but the thesis written on this page--no body paragraphs--nothing but the thesis.

If you do the above, you should do well tomorrow.

Sleep well, and I look forward to seeing you in class on Friday.
