For the 2015 – 2016 school year, English II classes will be using SpringBoard English Language Arts Grade 10, a textbook produced by The College Board, a not-for-profit organization that connects students to college success and opportunity. The new 2014 edition of SpringBoard was built on current research on best instructional practices and pedagogy. SpringBoard helps all students achieve the following outcomes:
- Higher-order critical-thinking skills
- Precision in reading and writing
- Accurate analysis and evaluation
- Problem-solving skills
- Deeper conceptual understanding
- Expanded academic vocabulary
The four units taught in the fall semester are shown below:

All English II-AP students are expected to complete the Summer Reading Project. It is due August 12, 2015. Please see the Assignments page if you need a copy of the assignment and/or rubrics.

Complete reading the Toni Morrison text handed out in class. Remember to annotate the text. It is a difficult text, so it may require that you read it two or three times to understand it. We will discuss the three texts in class on Monday.

I will be checking the introduction and 1st body paragraph of the assigned essay. The entire essay, outline and submitted copy to Holt, is due on Wednesday. It would be in your best interests to complete the outline tonight (introduction, 1st-3rd body pars., and conclusion) so that you can type and submit the essay on Wednesday. I have attached a copy of the essay outline to this assignment for those of you who would like to type the outline.
Tomorrow, you will take a short Information Resources/Research Test. Look over your notes on research and Works Cited pages, bibliographies, etc.
The Metamorphosis Chapter 3 is due on Friday--the day before the holidays. Make sure that you have all of the novel and the study guide packet completed, citing evidence in your questions.
