Introduction to Engineering Design

In IED you will dig deep into the engineering design process, applying math, science, and engineering standards to hands-on projects. You will work both individually and in teams to design solutions to a variety of problems using 3D modeling software and use an engineering notebook to document their work.

IED is a foundational course in Project Lead the Way’s (PLTW) Engineering program. PLTW is a nonprofit organization that provides a transformative learning experience for K-12 students and teachers across the US. PLTW curriculum creates an engaging classroom environment that empowers students to develop and apply in-demand, transportable skills by exploring real-world challenges. IED is the first foundational course and students are encouraged to take the second course, Principles of Engineering (POE) after successful completion of IED.

IED is a course in the Manufacturing, Construction Crafts, and Logistics career pathway. Students are encouraged take other courses in the pathway offered at BCHS such as: General Technology, Industrial Maintenance I, and Basic Technical Drafting, as well as the required upper level math and science courses needed for a career in engineering..
