Past Assignments
Due:
Start on your next image in class or at home and post the initial drawing/digital image/photograph here. You will need to work on this over Thanksgiving break.
Due:
Please post an image of your final project here. If you have already shown it to me via email, you may repost the same image here. If you are still working on it, get it done by the end of the Thanksgiving break. BUT, you must start on a new work also because we don't have much time left. A new project must be started this week.
Due:
Using the same requirements as your exam, create one new sketchbook entry for another potential portfolio project. The drawing part of the entry should be at least 1/2 the page. Include alternative thumbnail sketches, color choices, media options, reference images, notes, and inspiration artwork(s) to understand and plan the project. This is not a draw anything type of assignment. It must develop a new work that falls in line with the guiding questions of your portfolio. Please follow the requirements, included all components to receive full credit.
Due date is Saturday, November 14th

Due:
Please post a work in progress image after you’ve spent at least 90 minutes working on studio art related stuff. If you have several images to show me, put them in a google drive file or a slides file and upload that. This is due today.

Due:
Please see the attached slide presentation for your instructions and details. Keep in mind that this is due on Thursday, Oct 8th. Please, I'm telling you, you cannot wait until the last minute. You will not get it finished in time. You should be working at least 90 minutes each day on the work for this class!
Due:
You must complete your second project based on your guiding questions (from your proposal). Project media/style/subject/size/technique are all up to you as long as they fit your theme. Keep in mind that composition is always important. Design and the choices you make as an artist are crucial in the reactions of the viewer. Think about how you want the reaction to be....there is no right or wrong answer....it is an artistic choice. Have a vision...don't wing it! You will have a bit longer for this one, as we approach the end of the quarter. Don't wait till the last minute because this is due right before exam week and I will not be able to offer you extensions.

Last week I asked that you reply to two peoples shared research on the stream. I see the Barr, Loo, and Guo have done so. If you have not please complete this today so that I can enter a grade.
Go to the stream, look at a minimum of two of your classmates shared websites/videos and reply to them with what you liked/learned/could use in your own works.

Due:
Find a website, slide show, pdf, or video on your topic of choice. Read it/watch it for yourself. (Make sure its school appropriate!) Is it valuable? Did you learn something? Did you see something you want to try yourself in a portfolio piece? Did it make you rethink a project you were already planning?
Respond to THE STREAM with a copy of the link so we can see it too! And give us some information about what its all about and how you might use it in your own work...
Don't forget to click "turn it in" once you've added to the stream.

Please see the attached assignment explanation and rubric. You may present your final plans in any format you feel works for your ideas and available resources. Some ideas are to share with me a folder of google photos along with notes or a document explanation, create a google sheets presentation, powerpoint, publisher or pdf files, etc. Be sure to check out the example plans!
Due:
Choose any two principles of design: Movement, Balance, Unity, Variety, Rhythm, Pattern, Scale, Proportion, Emphasis, Contrast.
Complete a sketchbook that shows an understanding of two of these principles. Keep in mind that while the elements almost always exist in all artwork, the principles are how an artist organizes those elements in their work, so the principles are not all present in each piece. The way an artist organizes the piece of art can show variety but may not show unity at the same time. A work may have a play on proportion, but may not necessarily have a pattern. Pick any two you'd like to "play with." Complete a sketch that explores them in a variety of elements (don't just use line or shape, think about all the elements of art here).
The sketchbook entry is due Friday by 11:59 PM

Due:
After you have viewed the other four videos on space, value, form, and texture, you will pick any THREE elements of art to focus on for this sketchbook (yes you may use an element you've already sketched). The same rules apply: the sketch is not meant to be a finished work but rather a study or possible composition for a future project; it should not take longer than 30 minutes to complete but should fill the space and give the viewer a thorough understanding of what a "finished work" would look like if you decided to complete it.
Don't be afraid to add notes to yourself (and me) to the sketchbook entries. These should be studies and practices. Think about when you study for a traditional test -- you write notes, highlight, annotate, etc. Its okay to use those same techniques directly on your sketches! See some attached examples (most are from the internet but one is from one of your classmates!)

Due:
The elements of art are present in every artwork. Artists decide how each element is used in order to elicit a specific response from the viewer.
After viewing the presentations, you will create one sketchbook entry for each of these three elements of art (three total sketches). These sketchbooks are not meant to take you more the 30 minutes each. The goal of these sketchbooks are not to be finished art pieces, rather they are meant to show me that you understand how to use these elements in your works effectively. Your sketchbooks can be abstract/design oriented; they do not need to be realistic or show specific objects.
For these assignment, take a picture of your SHAPE sketchbook entry, upload it here and click turn it in. If you need help with this, go back to the stream and watch the "syllabus turn in" video.
Since these are our first sketchbook assignments here are a few things to keep in mind:
1. You should design the whole space of your page.
2. Keep in mind some basic design concepts like the rule of thirds, visual weight, and balance.
3. You may use any media you'd like (notice that in the presentations, examples are shown in a variety of media, including photography)
4. I want you works to be thought out and organized, but they don't have to be "finished quality."

Please read your syllabus and reply here with a picture/scan of the last page (page 6) signed by you and your parents. If you have an iPhone you can scan documents in your notes app. Click create new, click the camera icon, click scan documents. If you have an android there are free scan apps you can download to your device. You can also just take a regular picture of the page and upload the jpg.
